Gifts

Today it'll be just the photo and the question: did you ever get a thrift store/ flea market find as a gift? Or maybe you've given somebody one?

P.S. I did, recently. My friend Monika found this cup at the flea market in Sweden and bought it for me. It's so special for me now. I just love it.

I think that thrifting for gifts is a wonderful thing to do. Less goes into the landfill, and you can find things that no one else will have. Plus, it saves money, and takes more thought, which is really the point of a gift anyway (the thought).

Hi Kasia! :) I love your stories here. I just thought I'd add that I recently bought someone a gift at a thrift/antique store...but I haven't given it to her yet. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

Take care....

i also think thrifting is a wonderful thing, and i don't see the difference or issue of we gift things we thrifted. people in my life know i love doing it, and it makes the gift that much more special and unique. plus, it saves money but more importantly we are respectful to mother earth; as long as it's not dirty undies, that is!

i gave a friend some old beautiful french books i found in a thrift store. she studies in france and loves old illustrations so it was a perfect gift. but there are certain relatives of mine who would balk at a thrifted gift, the same who wouldn't appreciate something homemade. so they tend not to get gifts from me. :)

yes I have friends and relatives who would balk at thrift gifts too...i so hate that - I don't want to have to buy them some piece of new commercial rubbish but....

That cup is beautiful.

I have a gorgeous modernist sake set in brilliant solid hues that was thrifted by a friend. I'm always afraid to use it!

My husband and I are both into vintage shops, thrift stores, etc. He gave me the most perfect gift for Valentine's Day a few years ago. A cute litho of a Norman Rockwell print he found at a vintage shop. The print was of a little boy and girl (young lovers) looking up at a tree branch with 2 love birds in it. I cried! It was perfect.
