The start of something good: Or how I convinced my husband that another collection was really okay

Remember when I posted in November about finding two beautiful Japanese mugs for free?

I found another set in a vivid green with blue detailing at the same thrift store just a few weeks ago. Then, this past Saturday, I stumbled on an unmatched green pair at another store.

This means I've started another collection (yeah, me!). It also means my husband rolled his eyes when I told him about it.

To convince him this Japanese mug collection could be a good thing, I suggested we ditch all the regular coffee cups we use (You know those freebies you get from everywhere with so-and-so's logo on them? Those ones.) He said, "You know, that's a great idea. Then we will actually use something you've collected for a change."

Yeah for acceptance, and yeah, again, for useful collections!

What have you started collecting, lately?

Lately, it has been mason jars. Since I'm not buying anything but secondhand now everything must come in useful, and the mason jars are becoming very useful for food storage.

After seeing them all over blogland, I started collecting them too! I especially like the ones with colored patterns on them.

Ooooh, was it YOU who collected them? I have a couple on my blog that I picked up recently but don't really NEED to start collecting so I'm offering them to whoever does collect them.

Thanks for the comments!

An Odd Duck: I use canning jars for storing my sewing notions and art supplies in my studio (or I will once I put my studio back together!). I also use some for food storage in the kitchen. Love them!

Heidi: I think I started seeing them around blogland right when I found my first set. I'm sticking to green and blue so that they "match" the rest of my pottery collection. Oddly enough, I noticed my green ones match our exterior trim work that we just painted this past summer.

Miz Smoochie Lips: Thanks for the offer! As I mentioned above, I'm collecting green and blue mugs to keep my collection manageable. The mugs you found are awefully cute, though!

Just this week Ive started collecting thrift store mugs with whales on them. I picked one up, then realized it would go so well with two I already had. A collection was born!

I didn't realize I already had a collection of wood spools of thread until I saw other bloggers delight in them, so I organized them into a gallon jar and now am adding more. And speaking of canning jars...I now have at least 1000 jars added to that collection as we saved them from a house that is about to be burnt down by the fire department.

Those are pretty and far better than those crappy coffee mugs that take over your cabinets. They look like great mugs for Sunday morning coffee.
